Big Bank Alternative is a financial platform that educates and provides a referral service to low income individuals.
As lead designer at Elevux, my team's challenge was to create an inviting and intuitive online experience that connects their audience to their mission and stands out from the competition.
After our market research, our approach was to separate the website into three categories.
New users choose a “Short-Term” financial opportunity on the landing page, from there we have them take a questionnaire to pinpoint a financial opportunity specifically for them. We incentivize them to signup by offering the user “Long-Term” financial opportunities and a personalized dashboard.
After testing our first iteration, we learned that the user would want access to all financial opportunities in pre-signup. We solved this by combining “Short-Term” and “Long-Term” financial opportunities and made them accessible whether or not the user decides to signup.
We chose a playful aesthetic, in order to stand out from the typical corporate look used on similar websites. To gain the trust of our targeted audience, we used a warm yellow to evoke cheerfulness accompanied by a bold purple to inspire confidence.
Our users lack trust in most financial institutions, the notorious three digital credit score can be intimidating and drive them away. Big Bank Alternative's vision is to transform the financial industry by getting rid of the credit score and replace it with something that feels more human.
To arrive at the mark, we devised our own set of financial metrics. By ditching numbers and splitting up scores into three sections, we make the information more approachable.
In total, there are 9 educational resource types that populate the website. Each of these resources are organized by tags pertaining to specific kinds of opportunities.
Basic and premium advertisers view their campaign information in the advertiser dashboard. Basic advertisers see details and metrics for each of their campaigns while premium advertisers can also see how their campaigns measure up to competitors. Changes can be made and new campaigns can be launched from here.
Designing Big Bank Alternative taught me a lot about the necessary steps it takes to build a product like this from the ground up. It’s given me confidence that I can take on another project of this magnitude.
